<p>First-time homeowner Linda Kelley had never owned a home and says that her new Coronado townhome is far beyond what she dreamed possible. When you talk to her about her home, you feel her joy and excitement.</p>
<p>Kelley knew she would one day be a homeowner; it was just a matter of finding something she could afford. As a single woman working in South Central Los Angeles as an X-Ray technician, it was difficult to find a home she could qualify for on her income alone, but she stayed optimistic and persistent. She didn’t expect a fortress; just something she could call her own.</p>
<p>Kelley recalls looking at the houses in <a href="http://www.everythinglongbeach.com/lb/signal-hill/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Signal Hill">Signal Hill</a> while walking with friends and wondering, “What do I have to do to afford a home like that?” She never expected to be the owner of a beautiful, brand new townhome in the city she really desired to live in—Long Beach.</p>

<p>The McBride Park Teen Center Project will include a new 5,275 sq ft teen center, and new parking lot and skate park. An additional .15 acres of park space will be added along the 16th Street side of the park.</p>
<p>The Teen Center building will include a multi-purpose room, kitchen, game room, lounge, study room and computer room. <p>Visitors enjoyed dozens of activity booths while participating in jalapeño eating contests and winning free prizes. The Long Beach Fire Association Local #372 partnered with New Generations NG served free hot <a href="http://www.everythinglongbeach.com/lb/dogs/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with dogs">dogs</a> at the event. <p>At 11:30 p.m. January 7, 2010, units from the <a href="http://www.everythinglongbeach.com/lb/long-beach-fire-department/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Long Beach Fire Department">Long Beach Fire Department</a> responded to a report of a structure fire at 1100 Elm Avenue.  Engine 3 arrived on scene within a matter of minutes and found a first floor apartment fully involved in fire with fire extending to an adjacent unit.</p>
<p>The fire inside the involved apartment was so intense that flames reached the third floor landing.  The elderly female resident of the involved apartment was found lying in the courtyard near a planter with severe burns to her body.  Sadly she succumbed to her injuries and was deceased upon initial crews’ arrival.  Witnesses reported she walked from the apartment under her own power prior to collapsing in the courtyard. <p><em><strong>Read the rest of <a href="http://www.everythinglongbeach.com/fatal-apartment-fire-elm-avenue/">Smoking may be cause of fatal apartment fire on Elm Avenue</a></strong></em></p>]]></content:encoded>
