A group of Volkswagen New Beetle owners with support from Long Beach Timmons Volkswagen “Carabugged,” with police escorts to Millers Children’s Hospital Long Beach carrying more than 20 car loads of toys. Each Beetle owner donated various items to delight the kids from a wish list provided by the child life department.
New Beetle Club member and chair, Frank Perricone, led Beetle owners to deliver children’s videos, toys, art supplies and miniature models of their cars to stock up the child life playrooms on each floor of the hospital. Patients came out to see the Beetle cars and got to take back a “goodie bag” full of toys. The scene at the hospital was one full of joy and excitement as club members mingle with the kids and their parents. The Chick-Fil-A cow was there to provide entertainment to the children, as well as stuffed animals for each child.
The New Beetle Club held a raffle which raised more than $1,400 to benefit Miller Children’s. One hundred percent of the proceeds went directly to a “Transportation Fund” at the hospital, used exclusively for taxi/bus/shuttle vouchers for parents who cannot afford to get to the hospital to be with their children.
“The kids are ecstatic and the parents are so touched. We want to thank the New Beetle Club and all of its members for all that they have done for Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach over the years.” says Rita Goshert, manager, child life department, Miller Children’s.
