urban-rhythym teen community glee like choirInspired by FOX’s hit show GLEE, Catalyst Community and Harville Vocal Studio have partnered together to launch an exciting new community urban show choir for Long Beach high school-aged teens through young adults up to age 25.

While most show choirs are school-based and more common in the Midwest and East Coast, this new choir, named Urban Rhythm, will be a community-based choir that ideally will represent the diversity of Long Beach.

Its mission is to advance an appreciation of the arts through a community urban show choir that provides high school-aged teens in Long Beach with an artistic outlet. Twenty-four teens from throughout the city will be selected from auditions held in June. Weekly rehearsals will take place through the summer months to prepare the teens for fall and winter performances. New choir director Earl Harville says, “We are so excited to bring this choir to Long Beach’s young people. This is an awesome outlet for young performers to grow, not just musically, but as members of this community.” The assistant choir director and accompanist will be Davina Keiser who is also a music teacher in the LBUSD.

The audition schedule is as follows:

  • Saturday, June 5, 2010 from 4-8pm, Immanuel Center, 3215 East 3rd Street, Long Beach, CA 90814.
  • Friday, June 18, 2010 from 4-8pm, Hancock University Art & Design Center, 1600 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90813.

You might find this Mutiplayer software from Show Me How To Play useful. It makes learning and setting up multipart choir pieces fun and easy. There’s a free download of the software and Amazing Grace available here so go give it a try!
