Nomination Period for Primary Nominating Election Opens December 16

The nomination period for the April 8, 2014, Primary Nominating Election opens Monday, December 16, 2013, and closes at 5:00 p.m., on Friday, January 10, 2014.
Members of the public seeking nomination for office of Mayor, City Attorney, City Prosecutor, City Auditor, Council District seats 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, may pick up nomination papers from the City Clerk department beginning Monday, December 16, 2013, during City Hall business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A candidate orientation workshop will be held Monday, December 16, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, located 333 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802; at which time nomination packets will be issued to potential candidates for City elective offices. The workshop will last approximately two hours and questions will be answered regarding campaign finance, matching funds, electioneering, and political signs.
“During the orientation the City Clerk Department will explain pertinent provisions of the City Charter, the Municipal Code and the California Elections Code and we will answer any questions potential candidates and their campaign committees may have,” said Long Beach City Clerk Larry Herrera.
Herrera said, “At the time of the orientation each candidate will receive a Candidate Handbook containing all vital information regarding the City’s election process and systems, as well as the rules and regulations of running a campaign in the City of Long Beach.”
To be eligible to hold an elective office in the City of Long Beach, a person must be a legally registered voter and resident of City at least 30 days immediately preceding the last day (January 10, 2014) upon which candidates are permitted to file nominating petitions for office with the City Clerk.
The City Clerk Department invites all interested parties to attend. Please review the electronic Candidate Handbook prior to the Candidate Workshop. We will issue only one hard copy of the Candidate Handbook to each Candidate, or authorized recipient, at the Candidate Workshop. If the potential candidate does not plan to attend then he/she must complete and issue the Authorization to Receive Candidate Nomination Documents Form to the City Clerk Staff at the Candidate Workshop for an authorized agent to receive the Candidate Handbook on your behalf.
Should you, or an authorized agent, not be able to attend the Candidate Workshop, please note the last day to file Nomination Papers is January 10, 2014. You may request for your nomination papers and required forms from our office on or after December 16, 2013 through January 10, 2014, the nomination filing period (E.C. 10220, 10510, 13307).
