Do You Know an Outstanding Good Neighbor in the 5th District? Nominations Open

Fifth District Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske invites residents to nominate individuals and/or organizations for her annual Good Neighbor Award. The nomination process honors youth, adults and organizations who are recognized as being “good neighbors” in the 5th Council District.

The winners will be announced at the 6th annual Good Neighbor Festival and Family Picnic on Saturday, September 29th, from 10 am to 3 pm at Good Neighbor Park, located at 2800 N. Studebaker Rd., Long Beach, 90815.

“This is our annual effort to acknowledge the good neighbors of our district,” says Councilwoman Schipske. “These are the people and organizations that make the 5th Council District one of the best places to live and work.”

To submit a nomination for a Good Neighbor Award, go online and complete a nomination form here.  You can also send your contact information, along with the contact information of your nominee, to As well, residents can mail their nomination to Councilwoman Schipske at 333 W. Ocean Blvd. 14th Floor, Long Beach, CA 90802. Be sure to include reasons as to why your nominee deserves to be acknowledged as a “good neighbor.”

The Good Neighbor Festival will feature The Elm Street Band, a watermelon eating contest and a variety of booths that include Fifth District neighborhood organizations, non-profit organizations, and city departments. A number of activities and games for families and children will be provided, as well as free hot dogs and hamburgers; courtesy of the Long Beach Firefighters Association and the Long Beach Police Officers Association.

Additionally, this year the Good Neighbor Festival will include a photo contest for residents to submit a photograph that shows, “What I Like About My Good Neighborhood.” Residents sending a photo to Councilwoman Schipske will have it displayed with the chance to receive a “5th District Goodie Basket”.
