The 2009 Pop Warner National Championship Field has been determined. The North Long Beach Blue Panthers Junior Midget Football team has won the Regional Championship and is on their way to Florida to play for the National Championship.
This is not the first time a Long Beach Pop Warner team has headed to the Super Bowl. In 2008 the Panthers were the 2008 Peewee National Champions. And in 2007, the team was the Jr. Midget champions in the Tomlin Division.
Each year, Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. hosts the Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer and Dance Championships. The Super Bowl will have 17 states represented plus the District of Columbia, from 29 Pop Warner leagues. During the football championship, 68 games will take place from December 5-12, including the Division I Midget National Championship game, which is featured on ESPN and ESPN2 throughout the NFL Super Bowl week.
The Pop Warner Football Championships (referred to as the Pop Warner Super Bowl) are divided into teams competing in Division I and Division II. 64 football teams compete for National Championships in 4 different age/weight ranges (Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Jr. Midget & Midget).
In order to advance to the Pop Warner Super Bowl, a team must win its respective League Championship as well as the Regional Championship. Each advancing team is guaranteed to play two games at the Super Bowl, with a Tomlin and Warner Champion being crowned in each age-weight division and competition level.
North Long Beach Football and Cheer, in tandem with Pop Warner, exists to use football, cheerleading, dance and a respect for education to develop strong, smart, responsible, healthy young men and women. We give them experiences that build their appreciation for and understanding of leadership, teamwork, and discipline. The 2009 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships will take place at Disney’s Wide World of Sports™ Complex.
