donate easter basketsEaster is just days away and the nonprofit Community Action Team (CAT) is asking the public to help prepare and gather approximately 1,500 essentials-filled baskets. This is the 6th year that Justin Rudd has organized Operation Easter Basket.

Each year, Operation Easter Basket collects and distributes baskets filled with school and art supplies, hygiene items, socks/underwear, some candy and small toys for Long Beach youth who would not otherwise receive a basket.

CAT works with various agencies in the Long Beach area to identify kids aged 2-16 who are most in need.  Those unable to put together a basket may choose to make a tax-deductable donation online and volunteers will create a $20-valued basket on your behalf. A typical basket’s suggested value is $20-$35.

There are multiple drop-off locations throughout Long Beach including: Golden Spoon, First Fridays and Bayshore Church.

This year’s deadline for Operation Easter Basket drop-offs is 4 p.m. on Good Friday, April 2, so that the baskets can be hand-delivered in time for Easter morning. The main drop-off location this year is Bay Shore Church, 5100 E. The Toledo @ Granada Avenue, Belmont Shore on March 30-April 2.

Residents attending First Fridays in Bixby Knolls don’t have to make the trip to Belmont Shore. Swoop’s World Radio will set up a collection center during their live broadcast from Michelle Mangione’s Songwriter Showcase at The Mirage, 539 Bixby Road. Everything Long Beach will be on hand to help collect baskets. So, stop by, say hi, and drop off a donation for Operation Easter Basket between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. this Friday, April 2.

Baskets can also be dropped off any day of the week at Golden Spoon Yogurt stores. Anyone that donates a basket for Operation Easter Basket at one of their two Long Beach locations will receive a free quart of yogurt.
