10 Minutes, 12 Teams, and a mountain of oysters benefit Miller Children’s Hospital

Restaurant teams gather along Parkers’ Lighthouse beautiful patio deck overlooking the Long Beach Harbor to compete in the Shuck & Swallow Oyster Contest. Watch as they display their shucking expertise and see who can open the most oysters in ten minutes. As one team member shucks, the other will swallow as many as possible.

Shucker teams from Parkers’ Lighthouse, Walt’s Wharf, Duke’s, House of Big Fish, Crow Bar & Kitchen, McKenna’s on the Bay, Westside Tavern, Scott’s Seafood, Mastro’s Ocean Club, Bluewater Grill and more, will compete to determine who will take the title of Oyster Champion.

The event takes place Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 5:00p.m., at Parkers’ Lighthouse, 435 Shoreline Village Dr., Long Beach 90802.

Live Calypso Music provided by “Nu Pan Groove” will get the teams in the groove to shuck and swallow. Merrill Shindler, host of “Feed Your Face” on KABC Radio, editor of the Los Angeles Zagat Survey, and host of Fine Living: Critics on the Fine Living Network, will be the commentator of the competition.

The public is invited free of charge to watch the competition and cheer on the participants. Donations for Miller Children’s Hospital are encouraged.

City Officials and Sports Figures will judge the competition.

The line up for Shuck & Swallow:

5:00 p.m. Great drink specials and free appetizers

6:00 p.m. Shuck-Off! Will take place along Parkers’ beautiful patio deck overlooking the Long Beach Harbor.

7:30 p.m After Shuck with Shindler Dinner benefiting Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach featuring a hot and cold buffet, sushi, oysters and wine tasting.

The After Shuck with Shindler Dinner cost is $25.00 per person plus tax and gratuity.
