Pack health kits for Haiti with Neighborhood United Methodist Church
2010-01-16 · By Editor
As the scenes of devastation in Haiti continue to unfold, many people are looking for ways to respond. There are many ways to do that – texting the Red Cross to make an instant $10 gift, donations via Facebook and other social networking tools, food drives, etc.
For a hands-on way to help, join the Neighborhood United Methodist Church on Sunday morning to put together health kits that will be shipped through the Committee on Relief. The community will meet to put kits together this Sunday, Jan. 17, between 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in place of their regular worship service.
There are very specific items that can be put in the kits (see list below). If you would like to donate any of the items for the kits, please let Pastor Sandy (firstname.lastname@example.org) know so the church knows what they need to purchase in order to make complete kits.
Each kit costs about $12 . If you can’t come or would like to donate $12 so that we purchase the items, that would be great too. You can visit the Neighborhood Methodist Church website and donate through PayPal, send a check to the church or bring it by the church office.
Kit contents: Place these items inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag.
- 1 hand towel (15” x 25” up to 17” x 27”, no kitchen towels)
- 1 washcloth
- 1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
- 1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
- 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz. and up)
- 1 toothbrush (single brushes only in original wrapper, no child-size brushes) (do not need – big donation already)
- 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
(NOTE: Toothpaste will be purchased in bulk to be added to health kits before shipping. Please include $1 for each kit you send toward the purchase of toothpaste.)
Important Kit Assembly Information: All items included in kits must be NEW items. All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items—nothing more. Do NOT include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
The church is located at 507 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach 90802. For more information visit the Neighborhood Methodist Church online.
