Saul Williams’s MartyrLoserKing world tour is stopping in Long Beach. Philosophy along with Rayzak Hassan will guest star at this highly anticipated Spoken Word Performance on Tuesday, December 15 at 8:30 pm at the Federal Underground, 102 Pine Ave., Long Beach, CA 90802.
“It began for me as a beat boxer in a rap crew. I was very efficient but never used written lyrics as an expression. It wasn’t until a friend, provided me with a lyrical challenge: go home, write and memorize a rap for the next day’s cipher. That evening was the birth of my first poem, and the word has been embedded on my soul ever since,” said Philosophy.
Born Charlie Scott III, created Philosophy, the unsigned paradigm to poetry has performed at The Fly Poets Show Case and for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He was featured on the season 4 finale of TV One’s Verses and Flow and at the Hollywood Improv with his band Philosophy and Scholars. In addition to performing spoken word, Philosophy has produced two recurring shows: Vernacular Vanguard and Poetry in the Parlour at two Long Beach nightlife institutions The Exhibition Room and The Federal Bar, respectively.
In 2001 Philosophy released his debut book. The 7th Seal: A Bio Degraded is now a dog-eared classic in his ever-burgeoning catalog. Philosophy is currently penning a follow up. Philosophy has two albums due for release next spring. Heavy is the Crown, a solo project and Moments of Butterscotch with his band Philosophy and the Scholars. POTS features a five-piece band complete with a sultry horn section. In addition, Philosophy is collaborating with R&B artist, J Ross Perelli on an untitled project which he describes as a soulful mash up of song and poetry.
