Physical Altercation Escalates to Fatal Stabbing

On Saturday, August 6, 2016, at approx. 6:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area Anaheim Street and Molino Avenue regarding a stabbing, which resulted in the death of a male adult, and the injuring of a second.
When officers arrived, they discovered two male adult subjects who appeared to have been stabbed, and were transported to a local hospital. One victim had sustained an injury to the upper body and was listed in stable condition. The second victim sustained an injury to the lower body, and was later pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation determined the victims had been involved in a physical altercation with a group of subjects, which escalated into the stabbing. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.
The deceased victim has been identified as 22-year-old Juan Chavez of Long Beach. The second victim is only being identified as an 18-year-old from Long Beach.
