The 3rd Annual Pink Party will once again help kick-off Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride weekend, with a festive outdoor party at Promenade & Broadway in Downtown Long Beach on Friday, May 14 beginning at 7 p.m.
Produced and sponsored by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), the Pink Party has been adopted this year by Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, Inc. (LBLGP) as an official Pre-Pride Event. Attendees will flood Downtown in a sea of pink as guests are encouraged to dress the part.
“We are looking forward to working with the DLBA and raising awareness of all that Downtown Long Beach has to offer to the LGBT community,” said LBLGP Co-President, Sergio Macias.
Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to attend the festive outdoor affair, which will be hosted by famed drag performer, Jewels Long Beach. The Long Beach Drag Diva 2010 contest will feature seven performers lip synching and dancing for more than $500 in cash and prizes.
A special guest DJ will spin high-energy dance music throughout the evening and the five finalists from the America’s Gay Bachelor contest – set to host its finale the following day at Hotel Maya in Downtown – will make an appearance on stage to drum up crowd support as they prepare for competition.
“The Pink Party is a fun and unique event,” said DLBA Marketing Chairperson, Richard Lewis. “We’re excited to forge a great partnership this year with Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride and look forward to welcoming attendees from all over the country to Downtown Long Beach for a weekend that celebrates diversity and acceptance.”
A portion of the proceeds from the Pink Party will benefit the Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Center’s Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment (MYTE) Program, which provides cost-free services to gay, lesbian, transgender and questioning youth.
The Pink Party will take place on the Promenade north of Broadway in Downtown Long Beach beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 14. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $10 per person.
