The 4th Annual Pink Party will once again help kick-off Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride weekend, with an incredible outdoor party to be hosted in a new location on the lawn at The Pike (Pine Avenue & Shoreline Drive) on Friday, May 20, 2011.

Produced and sponsored by the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA), the Pink Party has quickly become a Pride weekend tradition, with thousands of visitors and residents attending the event, which raises much-needed funds for the Center Long Beach’s Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment (MYTE) program.

Adopted once again this year by Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride, Inc. (LBLGP) as an official Pre-Pride Event, attendees will flood the waterfront location at The Pike in a sea of pink as guests are encouraged to dress the part.  Pink lights and festive décor will transform the outdoor venue into a party unlike any other.

Famed drag performer, Jewels Long Beach, returns once again to host the event as only she can.  The Long Beach Drag Diva contest will feature seven performers dancing and lip synching for more than $500 in cash and prizes.  DJ Lezlee will be spinning high-energy dance music and a few surprises will be thrown in to keep the crowd on their toes throughout the night.

An outdoor bar presented by Hooters will serve beer, wine and cocktails.  Guests will have the opportunity to get their hair ‘pink’d’ as The Den Salon hosts a Big Pink Hair station and a Hookah Lounge will offer guests a chance to take a break from the dance floor with an assortment of flavor options.

“The Pink Party is definitely not your typical event,” said DLBA Executive Board Member and Marketing Chairperson, Richard Lewis.  “This is a fun and unique party that has grown from 250 people just a few years ago to more than 2,000 attendees last year and it’s grown so quickly because it is such a great time.  We’re excited to partner again with Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride and to help kick off an entire weekend that celebrates diversity and acceptance.”

A portion of the proceeds from the Pink Party will benefit the Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Center’s MYTE program, which provides cost-free services to gay, lesbian, transgender and questioning youth.

The Pink Party is Friday, May 20, 2011 from 7PM-Midnight and takes place on the outdoor lawn at The Pike located at the corner of Pine Avenue & Shoreline Drive.  Parking is available at The Pike parking structure or at The Aquarium parking structure.  The cost of admission is $10 at the door or $7 if purchased in advance.
