LB Playhouse Gallery Presents “Dreams and Shapeshifters,” An Exhibit by Lance Green and Michael Stearns
2011-07-18 · By Editor
Over the years these two artists have shared a vision for color, expression and dark whimsy, expressing the human paradox of grace and despair.
Stearns has been inspired by recent travels to Cuba and the southwestern U.S. Works in this exhibition demonstrate a fascination with color. Stearns identifies primarily a colorist, and states “I love the emotion that color evokes, color is like music, it connects with us in ways we do not even realize. Mixing intense colors creates a calmness and a question all at the same time.”
Lance Green is a colorist and an expressionist, but more than that he is a storyteller. Many of his works are a self portrait of sorts, but all are universal in their application. There is an anxious optimism in the work that somehow speaks a secret language that brings one to rest deeply in the sound conviction of a redemption of all things. Green, originally from the Long Beach area, currently resides in Colorado and is represented by Canyon Contemporary Arts in Santa Fe, NM, and Walden Fine Arts in Taos, NM.
In conjunction with this exhibit Lance Green will be conducting his popular Painting the Soul Workshop. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2, 7-10 pm. Cost is $65. To register for the workshop contact email@example.com
