Police Detectives Investigate Traffic Fatality in Port

On Thursday, November 4, 2010, at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to an industrial accident at the Long Beach Port that resulted in the death of a an adult male.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was traveling westbound in a semi-trailer truck in the port area, when he failed to stop and collided with another semi-trailer truck which was making a left turn. The force of the impact caused the the victim to be ejected from his vehicle. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded and determined the victim to be deceased at the scene. He has been identified as Bert Tufele, a 55-year-old resident of Carson.
The driver of the truck that was making the turn, a 44-year-old male resident of Lomita, remained at the scene, and was interviewed and released pending further investigation.
