On Sunday April 17, 2011, at approximately 11:48 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Gardenia Avenue in response to a call that shots were fired in the area, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

When officers arrived, they found a man in a vehicle with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and determined the man was deceased at the scene.

At this time, the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification to his family, and he is only being identified as a black male adult in his twenties.

It is unknown whether this was a gang-related incident, and a motive for the shooting is under investigation.

Anyone who may have any information regarding this incident is asked to call Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire or Greg Krabbe at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips can be submitted via text or email by visiting the L.B.P.D. website.
