Police Find Man in Burning Motor Home

On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, around 12:15 a.m., Long Beach police officers on routine patrol smelled smoke and discovered a motor home on fire in the 500 block of W. 17th Street. The officers called Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) for assistance then used fire extinguishers available in their patrol vehicles to extinguish the flames. LBFD personnel responded and located a deceased adult victim in the vehicle.
Due to the circumstances, Homicide detectives and Arson investigators responded and proceeded with the homicide investigation.
At this time, the victim is only being described as a male adult, 61 years, and a resident of Long Beach. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is in the process of positively identifying the victim and notifying next of kin, as well as determining the cause of death. No suspect information is available at this time, a motive is unknown, and the investigation remains ongoing.
