Freeway Shutdown as Police Investigate Double Murder

Victim Dies From Injuries Sustained During Robbery, Two Suspects In CustodyOn Saturday, May 28, 2011, shortly after 9:30 p.m., officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a vehicle on the northbound 405 freeway, just north of the Long Beach Boulevard on-ramp, (south of the 710 freeway interchange) containing the bodies of two deceased subjects inside. Officers from the Long Beach Police Department also responded to the scene to investigate. When the officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of Reginald Watson Sajonas, 37, of Anaheim, and Derek Alexander Pouono, 36, of Long Beach, who were deceased from gunshot wounds, inside of a light colored SUV that was pulled over the right shoulder of the freeway.

Long Beach Police homicide detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The exact location where the shooting took place has still not been determined. As a result of this investigation, all northbound lanes of the freeway were closed between Atlantic Avenue and the 710 freeway interchange for several hours.
