Police Investigate Homicide Believed to Be Gang Related

attempt homicideOn Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a shooting call in the 1700 block of Cherry Avenue, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, identified as 25-year-old Levert Johnson of Long Beach, was standing at a bus stop with a group when he was confronted by a male subject. Words were exchanged between the two and the suspect then pulled out a handgun and shot Victim Johnson, striking him multiple times. The suspect then fled from the scene on foot.

Victim Johnson was transported to a local hospital; however, he was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving.

The incident is being investigated as gang-related and remains ongoing.
