long beach police pursuit shootingOn Monday, June 21, 2010 at approximately 3:08 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the area of Fourth Street and Cherry Avenue to assist California Highway Patrol with a pursuit. The pursuit terminated in the area of Shoreline Drive and Linden Avenue when the suspect stopped his vehicle, and an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The pursuit originated in the city of Redlands when the suspect had been involved in an armed robbery to a business earlier in the day, and fled on local freeways before entering Long Beach. The suspect sustained injuries from the officer-involved shooting, and was transported to a local hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition. At this time he has only been identified as a 22-year-old male resident of Rialto.

No officers were injured during the incident, and a gun was recovered at the scene.

In addition to the Long Beach Police Department’s ongoing investigation, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is also conducting an independent investigation, which is routine for all “hit” officer involved shootings that occur in Los Angeles County.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Long Beach Police Department Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire or Greg Krabbe at (562) 570-7244.
