Police Seeking Additional Information on Monday Night Murder

On Monday, March 7, 2011, at approximately 10:23 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the 700 block of east Pacific Coast Highway in regards to a call that shots had been fired in the area, and that an adult male appeared to be wounded in a nearby alley.
When officers located the victim, they found he was suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso and performed CPR until paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking in the area when he was confronted by at least one male suspect who fired at him. The motive for the shooting is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
Pending notification to his family, the victim is only being identified at this time as a black male in his twenties. His city of residence is unknown at this time.
