On Sunday afternoon at 4:30pm May 17th, 2009 a group of five Long Beach residents known as “The Progressive Dinner Party” will do what they do best, host a fun, low cost fundraising dinner party for a local non profit for just $35.00 per attendee (though larger donations are gratefully appreciated!).

The motto of the “Five Progressives” is keep it simple, work with friends whose company you enjoy, and have fun! The events are open to the public, and are a wonderful way to meet like-minded neighbors who want to help those in need. Space is limited to 75 and reservations are required in advance. Those interested can find out more about past dinners at or by emailing to to rsvp for this dinner or join their mailing list.

Every other month, the Progressive Dinner Party hosts these inspiring dinner parties and raises from $2,500 to $6,000 per event, with over $100,000 raised since the organization’s inception four and a half years ago.

The Progressives have hosted dinner parties for local Long Beach non-profits such as WomenShelter, Horace Mann Elementary School Library, Operation Jump Start, The New School, Foodfinders and more. The events are held at private homes or at the facility of the non-profit benefiting from the dinner. All of the food, wine, and biodegradable plates and utensils used during the events are donated by caring locals as well.

The Progressives are always looking for new donation partnerships so if you or your business are interested please contact them via email at

The May Progressive Dinner Party will benefit the Long Beach based Comprehensive Child Development, Inc. (CCD) an organization that has been providing Early Childhood Education and care for families with young children ages four months to Kindergarten in the greater Long Beach, San Pedro and Wilmington areas for the past twenty-five years. CCD’s focus is low-income households, including many single-parent families. If not for affordable (free or low cost) child care provided by the agency many of the parents in the programs would be forced to remain on or return to welfare.

The fundraiser for CCD will be held at their facility at The Cabrillo Child Development Center at 2205 San Gabriel Ave., Long Beach 90810. For details on CCD please go to For details on attending the dinner please email

About the Progressive Dinner Party

The Progressives came together when five Long Beach friends realized they wanted to roll up their sleeves and see what good things they could help make happen in their own city of Long Beach California. The five friends include Eric de Valpine and his wife Cari Marshall, Donna Hilbert, Tere Sievers and Lenore Brown. The brilliance of the “Progressive Dinner Party” idea is its simplicity and ease, plus the fact that this generous group is willing to share just how they do it!
