Mayor Robert Garcia, Councilmember Al Austin and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine invite the public to a grand opening ceremony for the Jackson Street Park Dog Park on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:00 am. Jackson Park is located at 1432 Jackson St., east of Orange Avenue at Walnut Street.
“Jackson Street Dog Park is the ninth dog park in Long Beach, and is a part of the city’s commitment to healthy, active lifestyles and to supporting pet owners,” said Mayor Garcia. “This is a great addition to the North Long Beach community.”
The 0.14-acre dog park has perimeter fencing, and is meant for both large and small dogs to play together. Other amenities include a drinking fountain for both dogs and people, a bench and waste bag dispensers. The dog park is ADA accessible.
“I’m very pleased that we could complete this project for the community,” said Councilmember Austin. “This is a transformative use of what was a dumping ground and a haven for illegal activity.”
Long Beach Animal Care Services will have an information table at the event to provide information about their services for dogs and other animals.
The cost to construct the dog park was $160,000, with funding from Council District 8 non-recurring funds. For more information about the Jackson Street Dog Park opening event, call 562.570.3150.
The City of Long Beach now has a total of 10.5 acres of open space where dogs can socialize off-leash in a responsible manner.
