Public Invited to Kick Off Holiday Season at Tree Lighting Event

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia will officially “light-up” Long Beach’s tallest Christmas tree today, Monday, December 7, 2015 on the Terrace Plaza at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, 300 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802.

The tree lighting ceremony is part of a free public event sponsored by the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center/SMG and the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau.

“We hope to spark a new annual holiday tradition as Mayor Garcia flips the switch to turn on 35,000 twinkling LED lights on our 40-foot Christmas tree,” said Steve Goodling, President & CEO of the Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, “We have also installed thousands of additional holiday lights to brighten up the Terrace Plaza and fountains with holiday spirit.”

Everyone is invited to attend this festive holiday celebration from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Convention Center is providing free parking for the event. Bring the entire family for a fun-filled evening. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for pictures, so don’t forget to bring your camera. There will be holiday “selfie” stations, free train rides for the kids, a DJ providing musical entertainment and complimentary holiday sweets. Local food trucks will also be on hand to provide food for purchase.
