The community is invited to attend a special kick-off event to launch the Anaheim Corridor Design Visioning Process. The free event is on Saturday, March 28, at 11:00 am, at the Homeland Neighborhood Cultural Center’s Manazar Gamboa Community Theatre at MacArthur Park, 1321 E. Anaheim St.
“This community visioning process will help foster a distinct identity for Anaheim Street between Atlantic and Junipero Avenues,” said Mayor Robert Garcia. “We’re all very excited about contributing to the vibrancy of this commercial corridor.”
The ultimate goal of the community visioning effort is to improve the overall image of the street and increase pedestrian activity by assisting storefront owners in addressing issues such as storefront awnings and canopies, café seating, store signage, building façade and alignments.
“We want to capitalize on the corridor’s strong diversity, draw new visitors – especially pedestrians – to the area, support existing business and encourage new businesses to locate here,” said Councilmember Dee Andrews.
The Anaheim Corridor Design Visioning Project will facilitate a planning process which will result in design guidelines that will include:
- A planning process that will identify the desired outcomes for the design of both the public (streets, sidewalks, open spaces) and private (buildings, signage, frontages, parking lots) realms in the study area. After identifying the desired character, the design guidelines will be developed to advance these goals and provide guidance for property and business owners in the area.
- The development of guidelines that will help guide property improvements to achieve a desired level of quality for the physical environment. Design guidelines preserve and enhance the desired character of existing neighborhoods and improve the aesthetic and functional quality of new development projects and the public realm.
The community is invited to attend the following visioning meetings to share their thoughts regarding pivotal issues facing Anaheim Street, and offer ideas as to how to solve them:
