Creole cooking and French wine will make an appearance at the Queen Mary's New Orleans-themed wine pairing dinner.

Sir Winston’s, the Queen Mary’s signature restaurant, will host a New Orleans-themed wine-pairing dinner featuring French wines and cocktails, traditional Creole and Cajun cuisine, and live bayou beats on Thursday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in Long Beach.

The first of six themed dinners to take place this year will begin with a cocktail reception from 6-7 p.m. Upon arrival guests will enjoy Champagne and hurricanes, the favorite rum-spiked punch of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Guests of the dinner will also be entered to win prizes, including a two-night stay at the Omni Royal Crescent in New Orleans and two roundtrip airline tickets courtesy of JetBlue.

A four-course dinner will follow in Sir Winston’s at 7 p.m. and feature sustainable, locally-sourced cuisine that highlights the flavor of New Orleans including fried oysters with Cajun remoulade; duck and andouille sausage gumbo; seared filet Delmonico-style with Creole butter and crab Sardou. Expertly paired French wines will showcase the Loire Valley as well as the Rhone and Bordeaux regions. Dinner will conclude with dessert wine and traditional beignets served in the Observation Bar along with live Zydeco music and dancing.

“We always have something cooking at the Queen Mary, but this menu was particularly fun to create,” said the ship’s Executive Chef Larry Banares. “From the food and wine to the live Zydeco band, the evening will be packed with flavor!”

Looking ahead, the next dinner in the series will take place in May in the all new Chelsea Chowder House & Bar and honor the ship’s Scottish heritage with inspired cuisine and beer pairings. The evening will be extra festive as May also marks the 75th anniversary of the ship’s maiden voyage out of Southampton, England. Additional dinners will highlight Latin fare; kettle-cooked seafood; chocolates and Chandon wines; and tastes of the northwest.

Tickets to the New Orleans-themed wine-pairing dinner are $75 per person (tax and gratuity not included) and seating is limited. For reservations, call (562) 499-1657.
