The Queen Mary has announced an International Art Contest for children. The contest is currently underway and will continue through the end of October.
The Queen Mary invites children to submit their best artwork depicting the historic ship based on what they feel is most important about its history — past or present. They can use whatever artistic medium they choose, for example a drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. The only requirement is that the Queen Mary is depicted in the artwork.
The contest is open to all individual children, grades Kindergarten through 8th. No group submissions will be accepted. The last date for submissions is October 31, 2009.
After all submissions are received, the artwork will be judged by a panel of educators consisting of five people. There will be three sets of four winners each, divided by age groups. The age groups will be Kindergarten through Second graders, Third through Fifth graders and Sixth through Eighth graders. Each winning group will have a 1st Place winner, 2nd Place winner, 3rd Place winner and an Honorable Mention (4th Place winner).
