How long has Questing Heirs Genealogical Society been around? Did it start in Long Beach?

We started in 1969!

Describe Questing Heirs Genealogical Society. Tell us a little about your nonprofit, your mission, the people you serve or your goals.

Our mission is to promote interest and education in genealogy.(Family History)

We provided the books in the Long Beach Main Library’s Genealogy section.

How is Questing Heirs Genealogical Society different from similar nonprofits?

We service the surrounding communities of Long Beach.

How is Questing Heirs Genealogical Society involved with the community?

We provide free monthly meetings with expert speakers on the various subjects of how to find your family.

What are some of the biggest successes Questing Heirs Genealogical Society has had?

The collection at the Long Beach Main Library.

The support we give to people needing obituaries or other research needs from the Long Beach area.

The training we provide to further their success in finding relatives.

What is the most rewarding part of running Questing Heirs Genealogical Society?

Helping others in learning more about their families.

What are the challenges you face — as a nonprofit, as an advocacy group, or in your industry?

Our major problem is that so many people do not know that we exist.  They say, “I did not know there was a genealogy society in Long Beach!”

What are the future plans for Questing Heirs Genealogical Society?

Our plans is to expand the book collection at the Library.  Our other plan is to grow in membership.

Do you have any special events or fundraisers you’d like to tell us about?

Not at this time.

How can people get involved with Questing Heirs Genealogical Society? What do you need — volunteers, donations, etc?

We need volunteers to help manage the various duties of the organization.

We also need to work with others increasing the use of the Library.

We need ideas on publicity for our society.

What is the most inspiring advice that you received and who did it come from?

Keep looking, never give up!
