The city of Long Beach set records on Saturday when the E-Waste and Used Tires Recycling Event collected more than 36,000 pounds of e-waste and 200 used tires in only three hours.
The event accumulated 9,000 pounds more e-waste and 70 more used tires than the previous record, making this past weekend’s numbers the highest to date.
With a 140-person increase from last year, the Environmental Services Bureau also welcomed a record number of people – 525 – who showed up to drop off outdated computers, cell phones, monitors, TVs and keyboards.
All the e-waste collected will be disassembled and recycled, and the used tires will be turned into new products.
