“The Greater Long Beach Chapter’s golf tournament is our chapter’s largest annual fundraiser,” she said. “Proceeds from it benift our local Disaster Relief Fund, which provides victims with meals and shelter during a disaster liek the recent wildfires in the Angeles National Forest.”

“More than 40 volunteers and staff from our Chapter joined 500 Red Cross volunteers providing over 700 evacuees a safe haven in nine shelters, serving more than 5,700 meals, 10,337 snacks, giving out 530 comfort kits (a toothbrush and personal hygiene items) and 45 clean-up kits (a broom, mop and cleaning supplies). Disaster Relief is made possible through donations and fundraisers like the golf tournament which replenish our local Disaster Relief Fund.”

Locally the Greater Long Beach Chapter has responded to 5 home/apartment fires since August 1 and has assisted 19 adults and 17 children get back on their feet, by providing them with lodging, and a client assistance card (CAC) to purchase clothing, food, toiletries, and bedding lost in the fire.
