Kevin Smith Comes to Long Beach for Screening of Red State Followed by Live Q&A
2011-09-30 · By Editor
Independent film pioneer Kevin Smith, director of Clerks and Chasing Amy, is coming to Long Beach for two special screenings of his new film Red State followed by questions from the audience.
Already making waves for its intense story, fantastic performances, and stunning change of pace for comedy director Smith, Red State is a staggering and timely work of art that recalls recent and controversial moments in our nation’s history, complemented by sophisticated, Coen-esque dark humor. Set in Middle America, a group of teens receive an online invitation for sex, though they soon encounter fundamentalists with a much more sinister agenda.
Kill Bill’s Michael Parks leads an impeccable cast that includes John Goodman, Office Space’s Stephen Root, and 2010 Academy Award winner Melissa Leo. Complemented by tour de force cinematography by Smith regular David Klein, and white-knuckle editing by Smith himself, Red State is a fantastic thriller that signals an incredible growth spurt, and fantastic things to come, from the man who gave the world Jay and Silent Bob.
Don’t miss these special screenings of Red State followed by Live Q&A with writer/director Kevin Smith at the Art Theatre of Long Beach 2025 E. 4th Street. Two screenings only — both featuring Kevin Smith in person.
