Renaissance High School for the Arts Presents Bye Bye Birdie at the Center Theater

Get ready for some hip-shaking rock and roll at the Center Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, November 18th and Saturday, November 19th, at 7:30PM each night, with Renaissance High School for the Arts presentation of Bye Bye Birdie. This musical is a presentation of Renaissance High School for the Arts (RHSA).

Conrad Birdie has been drafted to the army. As a farewell, the rock and roll star is scheduled to sing Albert Peterson’s “One Last Kiss” and kiss a girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio live on the Ed Sullivan Show. However, Conrad’s hip-shaking makes more than one man in town uncomfortable, many of whom attempt to stop the show from happening. Meanwhile, Rosie wonders if her beloved Alfred will ever leave his mother’s shadow.

Long Beach Renaissance High School for the Arts is the visual and performing arts high school for the Long Beach Unified School District. The school provides a dynamic and innovative education that embraces and integrates arts, academics, and technology with equity of access for promising young performers and artists. Eligible students receive pre-professional training by a staff of exemplary artist-teachers and professional guest teachers.

The production will be filled with spectacular costumes and sets, and features a cast of over 100 Renaissance High students. It is a collaboration of the theater, visual arts, dance, and music departments. The musical score will be played by the RHSA orchestra.

“This is a great opportunity for Renaissance High’s students to perform a classic piece in a professional venue,” said Dan Spellens, Director of Theaters & Entertainment for the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. “We are always pleased to welcome Renaissance High’s productions to the Performing Arts Center,” he concluded.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults, $15.00 for students with identification, and $6.00 for children 12 and under. Orchestra seats are also available for $25.00.
