West Side Story

Students of Renaissance School of the Arts are proud to announce its 2013 fall production West Side Story, where the world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of theater’s finest accomplishments. The performances take place Friday, November 22, 2013 and Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.  at the Center Theater/Long Beach Performing Arts Center. This musical is a presentation of Renaissance High School for the Arts (RHSA).

Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. The musical score will be performed live by the RHSA orchestra. Additionally, Renaissance students work on every aspect of the show production – from set design and stagecraft, to sound, lighting, costume design, makeup and videography.

“We are excited to host, yet again, another great production by the Renaissance School of the Arts,” said Dan Spellens, Director of Theaters & Entertainment for SMG at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. “It is a pleasure to welcome the school back to the Center Theater.”
