repaving on Ocean Blvd

Ocean Boulevard eastbound from the Gerald Desmond Bridge to downtown and westbound from Pico Avenue to the bridge will be closed Jan 18-21.

Eastbound Ocean Boulevard between the Gerald Desmond Bridge and downtown Long Beach will be closed for repaving from 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, until 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21. The I-710 Freeway northbound from Ocean Boulevard will remain open during construction.

The on-ramp from Pico Avenue to the westbound Gerald Desmond Bridge will also be closed during the same time for repaving.

The closures on Jan. 18-21 are the first of three consecutive weekend closures scheduled to continue on the weekends of Jan. 25 and Feb. 1 as crews complete the pavement-improvement project on Ocean between the Desmond Bridge and downtown Long Beach.

Throughout the closures, signs will guide motorists to detours. For example, motorists going eastbound on the Gerald Desmond Bridge to Pico Avenue or downtown Long Beach on the Jan. 18-21 weekend will be directed to go north on the I-710 Freeway, then exit at Anaheim Street. Traffic on Pico Avenue seeking to cross to Terminal Island will be directed north to West Anaheim Street to bypass the bridge.

In addition to the repavement project on eastbound Ocean, the Pier T off-ramp coming from westbound Ocean will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Detour signs will be posted for traffic needing access to Pier T.

The Port of Long Beach is committed to keeping Harbor District roadways maintained in good condition and to minimizing the impacts of construction on motorists and businesses.
