Long Beach Crime

The Long Beach Police Department, in cooperation with our retail partners, conducted a three-day retail theft operation prior to “Black Friday” and the start of the holiday shopping season, to send a strong message to would-be criminals that retail theft will not be tolerated.

On November 13, 14, and 15, 2014, detectives and patrol officers joined asset protection specialists from over a dozen businesses at more than 30 locations throughout Long Beach. The operation’s goal was to identify, arrest, and prosecute 100% of the shoplifters, thieves, and commercial burglars.

The operation resulted in 72 arrests. Fifty-three were arrested for misdemeanor thefts or shoplifting. Nineteen were arrested for felony offenses, including grand theft, robbery, or parole/probation violations.

Long Beach Police would like to thank all of our business partners for making this operation a success, especially Albertsons, CVS, Food 4 Less, JCPenney, Kmart, Lowes, Old Navy, Ralphs, Rite Aid, Ross, Sears, Smart & Final, Stater Brothers, Target, Vons, Walgreens, and Walmart. Together, we will continue to aggressively impact retail theft and promote a safe shopping experience for our community.
