2014-07-08 · By Editor
Rotaract Long Beach will be hosting a free, public sand sculpture building workshop for the public at Granada Beach in Belmont Shore on Saturday, July 19th from 10:00am-2:00 pm. The workshop will be part of the Love Long Beach Festival hosted by Alfredo’s Beach Shack. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn the top sand sculpting techniques from professional sand sculptor Kent Trollen, who will be coordinating the sculpture centerpiece at the 82nd Annual Great Sand Sculpture Contest, a two-day charity competition taking place in Long Beach on August 16-17, 2014.
This pre-event workshop is free, family-friendly and open to community members of all ages who would like to build a sand sculpture. Group courses will be hosted on the hour from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. All participants are encouraged to bring sculpting tools including items such as paint scrapers, dowels and toothbrushes; buckets and shovels will be provided. Those interested should RSVP on the contest Facebook page: facebook.com/greatsandsculpturecontest or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The workshop offers a sneak preview of the Great Sand Sculpture Contest, one of the Long Beach’s most popular summer events. This year’s event has already seen record-breaking registration from teams and sponsors, which include the Port of Long Beach and the Long Beach Sea Festival. All proceeds raised at this year’s Great Sand Sculpture Contest will be donated to the Long Beach Library Foundation.
