Since Long Beach residents, Dodie Carmichael and singer/songwriter Michelle Mangione, partnered up to help Save Mayfair music two weeks ago they are astounded at the response of the generous donations.
So far, the Mayfair High School music department has received more than $8,000 in cash donations and more than 15 various instruments. Donors have been everyone from former students and teachers to L.A. County Board Supervisor, Don Knabe.
The rapid and generous response is fueling Carmichael and Mangione to continue their efforts until no student is turned away from the music program.
On Friday, October 2 they will continue to help the school by collecting instruments and monetary donations at the Mirage Coffeehouse, 539 East Bixby Road, Long Beach, 90807 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This event is in conjunction with the First Fridays Long Beach Art Walk and Mangione’s Monthly Songwriters Showcase. Former band students will also be performing.
If you have an musical instrument that you can donate, please bring it to the Mirage this Friday where a student or teacher will be more than willing to take it off your hands. Donations can also be dropped off at Mayfair High/Middle School during school hours 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
