Unveiling of the “Say Cheese Long Beach!” 24-Hour Digital Photo Exhibit This Friday
2010-09-01 · By Editor
Several hundred 4×6 images depicting Long Beach submitted for the Say Cheese Long Beach! 24 hour digital photo contest will be unveiled Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at the Expo building, during the Bixby Knolls First Fridays. The public is invited to view the exhibit and watch as approximately $1,500 is awarded at the awards ceremony. There is no charge to attend.
Some 100 seasoned and amateur photographers spent August 28 & 29 all over Long Beach immortalizing the city through digital photography. Each participant was welcome to submit 10-12 images to be judged for the contest and to be considered for the exhibit. A photo book is expected to be created with the images after the exhibit. The 24-hour timeframe from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday offered young and old a chance to explore their creative, humorous or serious side to generate a blended expression of our community.
The Say Cheese Long Beach! exhibit is Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 from 6:30pm – 9:30 pm at the Expo building, 4321 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach, 90807. The awards ceremony begins at 8pm and will consist of awards for top-10 photos and the following ten special award categories:
- Close-up photos
- The arts
- Special occasions/events
This the fourth Say Cheese Long Beach! project created and presented by Belmont Shore resident Justin Rudd and his nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (C.A.T.). The contest’s mission is to capture images of Long Beach that celebrate this vast, vivid, vibrant city. The contest aims to capture moments during our lives and the life of our city — taking us from dawn to dusk. We expect this exhibit and the forthcoming photo book to be a Long Beach family album of sorts that will inspire, amuse, and on occasion, disturb. The photos depict home life, work, religious events, secular happenings, nature/landscape, indoor life, animals, humor, drama, action, friends, family, city life, beach life and historical places. Winning photos will be selected on criteria such as theme, photographic excellence, visual impact, artistic quality, and “capturing a moment.”
