However, during this time he was evolving his musical skills as a producer and performer. He is now on a classic “rag to riches” quest to go global with his talent. In his latest release, “Get Comfy,” he’s about to trade his custodian’s broom for a microphone and chase the janitor’s American dream.

Kei-Shon-Son has an ability to create catchy verses and tracks right out of thin air. He proved this in his 2010 mix-tape entitled The Janitor’s Dream. His latest single is just one example of this gift. Within “Get Comfy” exists a simple, yet hooky and melodic, message about enjoying the creature comforts in life. Kei-Shon explains, “This is a track about what everyone works hard for – the chance to relax.” With his deep southern roots and his New York influences, “Shon” produces a unique style that crosses genres. “I really wanted to provide quality music for a broad audience,” he says. The result is an eclectic hip hop/rap mix fusing urban with a hint of gospel.
Read the rest of Work furloughs lead school janitor into rapping

This year is the 50th Anniversary of CPR. In 1960, a group of resuscitation pioneers combined mouth-to-mouth breathing with chest compressions to create Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, the lifesaving action now called “CPR.”

On Saturday, May 22, the community will have the chance to learn CPR by attending the 15th Annual CPR Saturday at Long Beach City College. The training event, organized each year by the Red Cross, is an opportunity for individuals to take a CPR course (at a reduced price) and gain the skills to save a life.

Being trained to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation can mean the difference between life and death. According to the American Heart Association, effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after cardiac arrest, can double a victim’s chance of survival.

One Long Beach City College student learned the importance of CPR training first-hand when a fellow student student collapsed from a seizure and stopped breathing during a class.

“We should treat ourselves as walking First-Aid Kits; it is the paramedics’ job to ensure the survival of the victim, but it is OUR job to first respond to them in times of emergencies… this is the reason why I took a CPR class from the American Red Cross”, said Jessie Rellosa, one of 22 individuals recognized as an Red Cross Hometown Heroes in 2010.

Rellosa learned CPR at last year’s CPR Saturday and saved a life two weeks later.

Emergencies like the one Rellosa experienced can, and do, happen at anytime. For a few hours of your time and a reduced course fee, you can learn crucial life-saving skills to protect your friends and family.
Read the rest of Red Cross CPR Saturday proves that cheap CPR classes are priceless

“People are under the false impression that LBCC is a safe haven for rabbits so they tend to drop them off when they are no longer wanted as family pets,” said Jacque Olson, a LBCC employee who has provided care for the rabbits for years. She continued, “Unfortunately, the rabbits live in unsafe conditions and are injured and preyed upon by predators because they were bred to be pets.”

The College is trying to raise awareness of this issue to prevent others from abandoning their pets on campus. Signs are being installed and campus police officers will begin enforcing local codes that subject anyone who abandons an animal to a $500 fine.

“The abundance of rabbits and their rapid reproduction rate has wreaked havoc on the grounds at LAC,” said Mark Thissell, LBCC’s Facilities Director. ”The rabbits dig holes throughout the campus, which create trip and fall hazards for students and staff and destroy thousands of dollars of landscaping.”
Read the rest of LB City College attempts to control overgrown rabbit population
