City officials announced on Monday that the recruitment for the new Long Beach Police Chief will be extended and will be opened to external candidates.
“Thus far, the City has received applications from a number of highly qualified internal candidates,” said Eric Middleton, Managing Partner of Alliance Resource Consulting, the professional recruitment firm handling the recruitment. “In addition, our firm has also received unsolicited applications from external individuals we feel are strong, well-qualified candidates as well.”
“It is our recommendation that the City consider those candidates as well,” continued Mr. Middleton. “Long Beach deserves to have a pool of highly qualified candidates, both internal and external, and it would be advantageous for Long Beach to avail themselves of this opportunity to review additional applications.”
The City of Long Beach had originally opened the recruitment to internal Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) candidates, as well as former LBPD management. The action today will allow external candidates from comparable California cities to also apply.
The recruitment will be extended until December 31, 2009. In the meantime, Commander Billy Quach will continue as the Interim Chief.
