The office of Council Member Robert Garcia and the Downtown Long Beach Associates (DLBA) announced today the names of the four individuals who will be honored at the 2nd Annual Latin American Parade & Festival on Saturday, September 25th.
Well-known Spanish singer, Shaila Durcal, will be honored as the event’s Celebrity Marshal. Port of Long Beach Harbor Commissioner, Mario Cordero, will serve as Parade Grand Marshal. The event will also honor two individuals as Community Marshals: Centro CHA Executive Director, Jessica Quintana and City of Long Beach Bicycle Ambassador, Tony Cruz.
The Council Member and DLBA announced last month a call for nominations, inviting members of the public to submit names of outstanding and deserving individuals whose dedication to the Latin American community and to the citizens of Long Beach overall.
“This is a great opportunity to recognize the incredible talent, enthusiasm and commitment of these Latino leaders,” said Garcia. “I don’t think we could have chosen people more deserving of this honor.”
The four parade marshals will participate in the event on September 25th, beginning at 1PM with a parade that follows a route down Pine Avenue from 6th Street to Broadway and then ending in the East Village Arts District with a festival of arts, music, dancing and food that will take up two City blocks.
Kick-Off Event to Recognize Local Honorees
The Council Member Robert Garcia and the DLBA will co-host a reception on Thursday, September 8th from 6-8PM at Hotel Maya to officially kick-off the event and honor the Parade Marshals. Members of the public are invited to attend, but are asked to RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
