scary-poppins All American Melodrama TheaterIn a melodrama, the bad guys are always defeated, but how will Long Beach’s All American Melodrama Theater fare when its newest villain, Scary Poppins flies into town? Singing nannies, ’60s children’s fantasy films, and current pop culture are parodied in “Scary Poppins,”  the latest offering from The All American Melodrama Theater.

This hilarious new show for the whole family opens on September 24, 2010.
Writer/Director Ken Parks promises that whether or not you’re a fan of such family films as “Mary Poppins” or “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”, you’ll be able to enjoy this fast paced, wacky, musical comedy.

“Scary Poppins” is about the a crazy inventor who has created something the small country of Yoursovanina wants. But how will they get it? Enter Scary Poppins, a children’s nanny who may not be who she appears to be. The inventor’s children, Jill and Jerome, must do everything in their power to thwart the “practically imperfect au pair” from getting her prize. Musical satires, crazy characters, and unpredictable plot twists are all a part of the family friendly fun.

For  three years, the All American Melodrama has specialized in producing interactive parodies.

“Scary Poppins” runs from September 24 to November 21. The evening also includes one of The All American Melodrama’s signature musical olios: “Junk Food Junkies.” The olio act is a howlingly funny mix of comedy sketches and songs.

Food is available from the theater’s concession stand. The menu includes snacks, pizza, burritos, spaghetti, popcorn and lots of beer on tap. Scrumptious desserts are also featured on the theater’s menu.
