This is How We Roll: Art from the Female Skater CommunityStudio 1021 presents “This is How We Roll: Art from the Female Skater Community,” Saturday May 7, 2011. These women are skaters, but their scope lies beyond wheels, trucks and bearings. Roller skating and skateboarding is a common thread and significant part of their lives, BUT it is not all they can do. They are not “one trick ponies.” They are artists representing diverse themes, media, and styles.

Come see the work of these talented women and support the Long Beach arts by joining them at this entirely FREE event Saturday, May 7, 2011 from 7-10 p.m. at Studio 1021, 1021 E. Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90802.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvre and cocktail reception.

Complimentary parking will be available at 1001 E. 3rd St. LB 90802, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Access lot from 3rd St. and walk 2 blocks south on Bonito Ave. to Studio 1021 on Broadway.

About Studio 1021
Studio 1021 is both an art gallery and a place to try your hand at making your own artwork during art workshops.  Art shows featuring local, emerging artists in a smashing one-night exhibition take place several times each year.

The owners of Studio 1021 are Patrick and Sonia Farrand, a husband-and-wife team of artists. While they each work from studios in their home adjacent to Studio 1021, they wanted to create a setting that would bring creativity to our community.  It is a place for friends, neighbors, and new friends to come out and support the arts.

Studio 1021 hosts weekly life drawing sessions, so attendees may practice drawing the human form.  Refreshments and tunes are supplied; you bring your art supplies and your imagination!   Private lessons in ceramics, painting and drawing are also offered. Art classes for children are taught by Sonia, a credentialed elementary school teacher, and provide an important creative outlet for children as the art budget shrinks in their schools.

Whether you are interested in creating art or just admiring it, you can do both in your own neighborhood at Studio 1021.  See our calendar and read our blog at www.studio1021.com, and stay connected with us on Facebook and Meetup.com.  We will be continually expanding our art classes and shows, and would love to see you there!
