Small Helicopter Rolls Over At Long Beach Airport

Just after 12:30pm Tuesday, October 12, 2010, the Long Beach Fire Department responded to a helicopter crash at the Long Beach Airport.
At the time of the crash, a 24-year-old instructor and a student pilot who appeared to be in his 20’s were both inside the small Robinson R-22 helicopter, which was only 5-6 feet off of the ground at the time of the accident. The student suffered moderate injuries and the instructor’s injuries were minor. Both were transported to a local hospital.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to contain a small oil and fuel leak on the helicopter. There was no fire or other reported injuries from the crash.
