On Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Tracy’s Bar and Grill, SNAP will launch its first annual benefit concert and silent auction. SNAP is a charitable organization created to fund and support programs that encourage and educate children with special needs. “These children are our priority,” says founder Jocelyn Joiner. “We are committed to enriching their lives through inclusion in the general education environment. We encourage programs that strengthen children’s abilities through interactive learning styles where each student can have an opportunity for success, while working at their own pace.”

Best Buddies is a program SNAP is currently supporting within the Long Beach Unified School District. Anthony Kennedy Shriver conceived Best Buddies International in 1987. The program aims to improve the lives of those with developmental disabilities by pairing them in rewarding one-on-one friendships with non-developmentally disabled peers. Studies show that most people with developmental disabilities never experience a meaningful friendship at any time throughout their lives. Best Buddies seeks to end this painful, potentially life-long isolation through its positive and meaningful social interaction opportunities. Best Buddies envisions a world where people with developmental disabilities are so successfully integrated into schools, workplaces and communities that its services will someday be unnecessary. The Best Buddies program was introduced into Long Beach in 1996 starting with Millikan High School. The program has grown to include high school chapters, middle school as well as a higher education chapter serving the California State University at Long Beach. With the help of this event, the SNAP organization hopes is to establish the Best Buddies program in all Long Beach Unified elementary schools. For more information, visit
