SoCal Harvest Host Garden Cocktail Party Fundraiser

As you may know, SoCal Harvest is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization founded in January 2009, in response to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Our volunteers gather fresh produce from home gardens and deliver it to local food banks to share with those in need. To date, SoCal Harvest has picked and donated over 40,000 pounds of fresh produce from home gardens.

Labor is donated, but the cost to run the not for profit has increased measurably in the last nearly five years. SoCal Harvest purchases, maintains and houses the equipment used (fruit pickers, ladders, hand pruners, rakes, broom, gloves, etc) and of course there are the costs for auto maintenance, auto insurance, gasoline, internet, phone; needless to say, the expenses add up!

SoCal Harvest is hosting our first fundraiser Sunday, October 20th from 3-6pm, at a private residence in Bixby Knolls, Long Beach. We’re excited to be serving hors d’oeuvres by Chef Paul Buchanan, owner/chef of Primal Alchemy Catering and Chef Sean Forsha, Spring Street Garden, a seasonal farm fresh salad by SOL Kitchen Chef Sarah Lim, ice cream by Dina Amadril, Long Beach Creamery and cookies by Southern Girl Bakery (fka The Village Bakery). We will host a short canning demonstration by Master Preserver, Jimmy Ng (The Growing Experience) and we’ll conduct a silent auction (pieces donated by a number of local artists), hourly opportunity drawings (prizes donated by several local businesses), as well as host a table of home preserves for tasting and purchase and we’ll have LIVE MUSIC by the Centuries and two other musical acts!
