Lindsay Bullock and Bo Rael celebrate as the 49ers defeated CSUN, 2-1, on Senior Day.

Seniors Bo Rael and Lindsay Bullock made their last regular season home game one to remember as they lifted the Long Beach State women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Northridge Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field.

The 49ers moved into a tie for second with CSUN and Pacific in the Big West standings as they improved to 11-4-2 overall and 4-1-1 in conference action.

Rael put The Beach on the board with her first goal of the year, while Bullock netted her sixth goal of the season. Juniors Nicole Sweetman and Marysol Rosas both tallied an assist and Emily Kingsborough compiled three saves in the win.

LBSU finished the day with nine shots, five of which were on target. Sophomore Nadia Link led the 49ers with three attempts.

In an action packed first half, Rael gave Long Beach State the early 1-0 lead as she found the back of the net after just over four minutes of play. Sweetman sent a corner kick across the box and to the far post where Rael headed the ball to the upper netting.

The Matadors (10-8-0, 4-3-0 BWC) responded in the 23rd minute when Heidi Farran scored on a cross from Sonia Espitia.

Bullock came back to put the 49ers on top for good with a header goal at the 31:20 mark. Rosas crossed the ball from the left side, finding a wide-open Bullock on the far post.

It appeared that CSUN had evened the score in the 51st minute when Desiree Cardenas headed the ball to the near post, but the goal was waved off as she was called for being offsides. With its strong defensive play, The Beach was able to shut down the Matadors the rest of the way for the 2-1 victory.

Long Beach State closes out the regular season on the road next week when it heads north for a pair of Big West games at Pacific (Oct. 29) and UC Davis (Oct. 31).
