A Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach patient draws pictures with superhero, Spider-Man.
Patients at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach had a special visit from superhero, Spider-Man. The Marvel costumed character swooped in to interact with children in the hematology/oncology and general pediatrics playrooms at Miller Children’s. Spider-Man drew pictures with the children and their faces lit up with excitement to see a “life-size” Spider-Man. He walked through the halls of the hospital with a spider-like cadence, as he passed patients and staff, from playroom to playroom.
“It’s really great to have a special visitor like Spider-Man for the kids,” says Rita Goshert, child life manager, Miller Children’s. “It really brightens their day and makes them forget they’re in the hospital, even if just for a moment.”
Miller Children’s Child Life Program coordinates events, such as visits from special friends, to help make the hospital experience more positive for children of all ages. Child Life specialists plan individualized and group programs that help children adjust to their hospital stay and promote the continuity of normal, daily childhood activities.
