Describe Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center. Tell us a little about your nonprofit, your mission, the people you serve or your goals.
Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center is a community service, faith-based, non-profit organization designed with hurting people in mind. Our mission is to offer help and hope to those whose lives have been impacted by the death of a loved one, or other major or significant life changes. We offer a complete package of grief education and support for those who need guidance during life’s tough times.
How is Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center different from similar nonprofits?
We are faith-based and serve anyone needing help as they experience grief, resulting from the death of a loved one. We give special attention to parents in the loss of a child or children. Springs of Hope Grief-Care operates solely on the basis of charitable gifts and tax deductible donations, turning no one away because of their inability to pay. Our is to help hurting people receive hope and healing.
How is Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center involved with the community?
Our services are made available to the people of the Long Beach and surrounding areas. We partner with other community based organizations, such as churches, hospitals, and some specialized community groups. We served as a resource for the LBPD’s peer counseling group and as a member the Chief’s Chaplain’s Advisory group. As often as possible, we participate in community events.
What are some of the biggest successes Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center has had?
We have watched the transformation of hopeless, hurting people as they receive hope, healing, and restoration, (when thought they would never make it through the death of a child, or a spouse, or sibling or other major life change).
Watching and working with people, witnessing them as they are infused with hope.
What is the most rewarding part of running Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center?
The most rewarding part of running our organization is that we are able to provide a place and platform where hurting people can be healed.
What are the challenges you face — as a nonprofit, as an advocacy group, or in your industry?
The challenges we face as a non-profit are 1) lack of access to capital (need money to operate), 2) a desire for more community resources, 3) broadening our service area.
What are the future plans for Springs of Hope Grief-Care Center?
Our most immediate plan is to engage in a marketing campaign to spread the word about the services we offer. We are also working toward increasing our community partners and connecting with other specialty groups.
Do you have any special events or fundraisers you’d like to tell us about?
Yes. Our annual fundraising event…the Summer Brunch will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Grand Event Center, 4101 East Willow Street, Long Beach @ 11:45 a.m.
