Guests go on a guided tour of the area proposed for California Gardens.

Back by popular demand, a California Gardens Sunset Tour has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 16th, 6:00PM-7:30PM. The sunset tour will replace the regularly scheduled 3rd Saturday of the Month tour, for the month of May only. The monthly tour is led by volunteers and will focus on the history, wildlife, plants and new developments of this exciting property.

“The need for recreation opportunities and open space continues to grow in northern, central, and western portions of Long Beach,” says Councilmember James Johnson. “California Gardens is an opportunity to develop 40 acres of City-owned land into a natural oasis the whole region can enjoy.”

California Gardens is among the highest points in Long Beach with views that extend over the ocean towards Palos Verdes to the mountains and the Los Angeles skyline. The 56-acre property behind Sunnyside Cemetery has diverse topography, native plants and wetlands.

The California Gardens tour is free and open to the public. Dogs are welcome, as long as they are on a leash at all times. Come see for yourself what everyone is talking about.

The next California Gardens Tour will take place on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. Meet at 2745 Orange Avenue.
